Gathered skirts are my all time favourite thing to sew - they are so easy(sew easy? hah!) to make and they give some shape to my barrel of a body! Third best thing - you can make them in all different lengths and fabrics. There are very few people who don’t look good in these skirts - and they’re really easy to wear. This is a great beginner sewing project. OK, enough talking about gathered skirts, get to it and make one already!

If you’ve never had bubble tea, you have to try it! It’s like a sweet, milky tea that you can find at some Asian restaurants (in Adelaide there’s a Bubble Tea shop downstairs of the Myer Centre in the City!) If you want to try it but can’t find it from stores or you love it and want to have it whenever you want, this is a great recipe from The Kitchn. Have fun!

Call her crazy. Call her a Portland stereotype—although she claims she doesn’t do it to save the world—“I cancel out my bike riding every day with all the other terrible things I do,” she admits. “I don’t compost, I stink at vegetable gardening”.

But, Emily (34) traded in her SUV for a bakfiets (a traditional Dutch cargo tricycle) to haul her brood of six (ages 2 to 11).

In three years, Emily estimates she’s spent about $135 dollars maintaining her bike.

It also saves her money on exercise equipment or a gym membership. She’s lost 25 pounds since she got the bike in 2009 and says she never thought she’d get back to her pre-birth weight after having six kids. When I asked her why she doesn’t get an electric-assist system, she replied with a big smile, “Because I like chocolate!”

Talk about a POWER-FREAKIN-HOUSE!

I want that bike!

American women are offered 12 weeks of unpaid leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act, which exempts companies with fewer than 50 paid employees, but in 2011, only 11 percent of private sector workers and 17 percent of public workers reported that they had access to paid maternity leave through their employer. And for first-time mothers, only about half can take paid leave when they give birth.

This is shameful - and Interesting given the amount of talk we hear about “family values.”
